Costa Almeria is renowned for its superb water-sports. Water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, scuba-diving, jet-skiing and parasailing - and with a warm Mediterranean climate and a backdrop that is second to none.

Costa Almeria Food and Drink

Costa Almeria is a real treat for lovers of fish, seafood and fresh fruit. Make sure you try ‘espetones de sardinas' (roast sardines), ‘fritura malagueno' (fried fish Malaga-style), and ‘papanduas' (codfish cakes). Other Costa Almeria favourites include traditional tomato and cucumber based ‘gazpacho' soup, and garlic ‘gazpacho ajo blanco'.

Beaches

Costa Almeria has plenty of sandy beaches with clear water – and you can still find some deserted beaches along the coast. There are Blue Flag beaches at Roquetas de Mar, Berja, Vera and El Elgido. The beaches are almost deserted for much of the year.

Almerimar has a Port-Marina and a fishing harbour. More people each year are discovering the beaches, the sun and the natural beauty of the area. As Almerimar is only one hour from the Sierra Nevada it is possible to go skiing in the morning then soak up the sun on the beach in the afternoon.

Costa Almeria Beaches - Roquetas de Mar Roquetas de Mar is an ancient city, once populated by fishermen and salt miners. It was founded by the Phoenicians and during the Roman domination was known as Turania which currently is called Torrequebrada de los Bajos. Numerous archeological remains have been located in this area. In Roquetas the Mar is the Club the Golf Playa Serena that is directly on Playa Serena beach.

Almeria is located at the foot of a mountain range which is crowned by the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Calph of Cordoba, Abd-erRahman 111 with three huge walled enclosures. Almeria is already preparing to host the 2005 Mediterranean Games and already the sporting spirit prevails in the city. Almeria has recently had a new airport built, Almeria Airport is located roughly 8km east of Almeria .

San Jose is situated less than half an hour from Almeria International Airport on a stretch of Spain´s Mediterranean Coast so Beautiful and undeveloped it has been declared a Natural Park. The coastline of the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata is dramatic. Costa Almeria Beaches - Garrucha
Garrucha is located between the beaches of historic Mojacar and the next town of Vera . The origin of the town dates back to the 16th century, when it was founded by a group of fishermen, who protected themselves from pirate attacks by constructing a tower. The promenade (Paseo Maritimo) runs the length of the town and is a peaceful oasis for locals and visitors.

Costa Almeria Beaches - Vera Vera is prosperous and has many shops, is rich in handicraft and the amount of tourists is constantly increasing because of its well-known cuisine. There are fancy restaurants, as well as the popular Spanish “Tapas”.
